WordPress 2.0 is great, but not really

Filed under: Life, Technical, Web — Joey @ 2:38 pm

So WordPress 2.0 isn’t working out so well for my friend Charlie Deets, or myself. I am extremely impressed with the great strives they’ve made in code quality, but image upload is important for him, and I really need to have it stop filtering out tags i post via MarsEdit because of an XML-RPC bug. Those were two bugs that were important to NOT ship with.

I think I might go crazy this weekend and try to fix our problems by switching to a nightly-bulid version of WordPress. Version 2.0.1 is supposed to come out I think on Feb 16, but who has that much time to wait?

Look! I am famous, for sending an e-mail. Its grand to be famous. But not as famous as Sally who played an amazing show with a huge crowd on a Wednesday night last night at the Double Door….

Its also great when I have more posts mentioning my website and its infrastructure than not… I am most certainly a geek.

Back in Urbana, Server Nominal

Filed under: Life, Technical, Web — Joey @ 11:38 pm

I’m back in Urbana, and things are getting unpacked. Its nice to be here, though it was awesome to be home too. Unpacking, etc…

It appears that the server is operating nominally and DNS seems to have tricked down, so I’m going to worry about getting some food now instead.

Tomorrow there is Open Skate at the Ice Arena from 7:30-9:30. I think I’m going to go, as I shouldn’t have too much to do.

The drive back was absolutely awesome. It felt like–like I should drive some more.

Steak & Shake is calling.

Scheduled Downtime

Filed under: Technical, Web — Joey @ 3:16 am

On Sunday evening between the hours of 4 pm and ~8 pm JoeyHagedorn.com will be unavailable due to scheduled server maintenance. I will be relocating the server to a new hosting facility for better network bandwidth well as installing some software updates. The server’s IP address will be changing, so it is unclear when the machine will become accessible again from the internet, but I intend to update the status page with the IP address when it becomes available before DNS catches up. Once relocated it could take as much as 24 hours for the change to propagate, but more likely it will be between 1 and 6.

Additionally, everyone should know not to leave a glass of applejuice out, even if it is only a small amount, because it will quickly turn in to a disgusting moldy mess.

WordPress Upgraded

Filed under: Technical, Web — Joey @ 11:39 pm

Today I completed the upgrade to WordPress 2.0. The upgrade was pretty painless after following the instructions and I am only encountering one significant problem. I use the WPG2 plugin to connect WordPress to Gallery2, and unforunately when I post with MarsEdit the <wpg2> tags are filtered out. I can use the tags when I use the web interface– but that simply won’t work for me. It appears to be directly related to this problem with people using the Markdown plugin.

the race to ship

Filed under: Technical, Web — Joey @ 2:32 am

joeyhagedorn.com is on schedule to launch for 2006.

There are a large number of changes that need to occur before this site is ready for mass consumption though. Planned changes include:

  • Content in all of the Pages– especially the photo albums, projects, and deliverables
  • New font colors/sizes for the whole site
  • Import all of my old posts from my now deprecated livejournal
  • Finish installing awstats software for statistics and get it working
  • Move to a static front page that includes general “About Me” info and move blog to /blog via a plugin

The software I am using to make this all possible includes but is not limited to:

One major problem I am having is that I cannot access my site from my internal lan due to the routing setup. This will be resolved when i move the server physically (a Power Mac G4/500Mhz AGP, 384MB 640MB Ram, 160GB HD) to Urbana with me, and www.joeyhagedorn.com will get its own public IP.
