Ocean to Ocean in 24 hours or less

Filed under: Life, Photography — Joey @ 2:29 am

On my way back from Cape Canaveral I realized I’d be traveling pretty far, coming from the coast all the way back home in Santa Clara. So, I decided to see both oceans flanking the continental US in one day, for it wouldn’t be much further to travel. I woke up and saw some birds with Mo in the Atlantic in the 30 minute break from the rain. Then headed west, first by car to Orlando, then by plane to DFW, then again by plane to SJC, then again by car to Santa Cruz. I reached the Pacific before bed and also took a photo. It was lots of fun, and probably will be a while before I travel so far again.

Panoramas and Stitched Photographs

Filed under: Creative, Photography — Joey @ 6:51 pm

In my final project for my photography class this semester I had intended to take very wide angle pictures of spaces to evoke a feeling of emptiness and desolateness around the university. As the project progressed, I found it had turned in to something else; extremely wide angle and stitched photos. The process produced high resolution images which allowed me to print them very large. The image “beautifulcourtyard” seems to reflect the original intent most accurately.

Prints covering the entire floor of my apartment

They were put together with Adobe Photoshop CS3; Realviz stitcher provided unsatisfactory results.

The “big” versions I’ve put up for viewing in the gallery are 33% scaled versions of the originals. The originals are impressively large, which yielded the interesting prints. Well, they’re not wall sized or anything, but they’re the first time I’ve printed this large.

One more round of photos coming after I get back to school and scan the black & white film project.

My proceeding Fall 2007 semester entailed a photography course. In light of all the photos I took, I’ve here made several of my favourite photos available for your viewing pleasure right here on my website. They’re all available in the gallery section, as well as this post. These are all from the first project, I intend to post more photos in the future. Happy 2008.

Surveying Building

Filed under: Creative, Photography — Joey @ 2:57 am

I’m happy to report I’m the proud new owner of a Canon PowerShot SD850 IS. It is so much fun to take photos with this camera. I’m going to be happy to use it while working on the final project in my photography class this semester. Here’s a sneak preview of what to expect:

Surveying Building

Am I the only one that finds it strange that the Surveying Building is the only building on campus placed so close to the road that it is uncomfortable to walk two across without falling in to the street?

San Francisco Panorama

Filed under: Life, Mac, Photography — Joey @ 3:21 pm

Just a quick pano from my window here at the Parc 55 hotel in San Francisco. WWDC has been a lot of fun, part due to the excellent accommodations I was lucky enough to obtain for the conference. If you look carefully, you can see the tall statue in the center of Union Square.

What a beautiful evening

Filed under: Creative, Life, Photography — Joey @ 3:31 am

I’m back at school for the Spring semester and am reasonably excited about it. As I sit here in my apartment, I am quite pleased that I can walk around for the first time in many months without shoes or socks on and not worry about getting my feet dirty. Thank you Roomba. Roomba stopped making beeps, and will need to go in for service, but cleans extremely well anyway. The iRobot people sent a replacement brush guard straight away–but I think this Roomba may have been treated poorly in it’s prior life.

My new Erem wire cutters. (They’re Swiss!)

The next few months will provide me with plenty to keep busy; microcontrollers and software and photographs and lasers and wire cutters and books and music and classes and learning and evenings and everything else, but I’ll miss some things from my winter break.

Have some foot

Esther having some foot, me having a messed up sleep schedule, interesting conversations in the bcfg2 IRC channel, and good times with friends.

I think I’m ready though. I’m relaxed. I have a new desktop pattern set. The floor is clean.

Allerton

Filed under: Life, Photography — Joey @ 2:18 am

I enjoyed the plant sale at Allerton, but did not buy any plants.

I did however meet a Chinese Musician and managed to take his portrait.

He had many friends, which you might go to Allerton and meet. I did not take their photos because it was starting to rain.
