I did all this stuff to make the parts in the laser galvanometer that feed back the position to the amplifier, closing the loop essentially. The copper surfaces on the PCBs act like plates on a capacitor, actually 2 capacitors. The system is designed after the ELM Chan galvanometer. You can see a illustration of how it is supposed to work in Figures &lt;a href="http://elm-chan.org/works/vlp/report_e.html"&gt;4a-4c&lt;/a&gt;. It is kind of obstructed by the drawing, but you can kind of see it in the CAD rendering of the whole assembly in the Galvanometer picture album. 

Ferric Chloride isn't actually too hard to get because of its use in this application. It is however, hard to buy online because its dangerous to ship. You can go get it at &lt;a href="http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102868" rel="nofollow"&gt;Radio Shack&lt;/a&gt; or my preferred source, at &lt;a href="http://www.frys.com/" rel="nofollow"&gt;Fry's Electronics&lt;/a&gt;.</description>
